Werner was born in Pretoria and attended Waterkloof High School in Pretoria, after which he pursued a medical career and obtained his degree as Medical Doctor (MBChB) from the University of Pretoria and also completed his intern medical doctor year. Werner decided not to further pursue the medical world, but rather to join the family business. Werner further studied and obtained a Marketing Degree and also obtained an M.B.A. in 2001 from the University of Hull (U.K.), specializing in Strategic Marketing, which comes to very good use these days. The Roux family has built a family business since 1995, extending across numerous industries from commodities, mining, fincance to the property industry. The family owns stakes and have been co-founders of numerous businesses, of which the Real Estate and Property development businesses are the largest. The Roux family has been involved in various property developments over the past 25 years, ranging from commercial, to residential and private hospital projects.

During the years from 1996 to 2004, Werner Roux has been developer and co-developer of multiple town house projects in the suburbs of Garsfontein, Faerie Glen and Moreleta Park in Pretoria. The Roux family also developed 23 large corporate office buildings in Brooklyn and Hatfield in Pretoria, as well as a large industrial complex in Wadeville, Johannesburg. The Roux family currently has various large-scale projects in process, such as LagoonBay in George and the Longlands Village project in Stellenbosch.

Werner is also a partner and involved via the Staytus Collection portfolio, with two new developments in Paarl, being a new residential complex and hosted for Paarl Boys High (110 rooms and 50 apartments) and a partnership with Boland Cricket, which will see the development of approx. 1,500 new residential apartments on the Boland Crickets grounds in Paarl, along with retail and commercials precincts.
